What is the Intake Triage Project?

A Project Dedicated to Understanding Who is Entering an Animal Shelter & Why

Simply put, this project aims to enhance support efforts and the intake process by implementing a people-oriented model. A conversational approach will help us understand the root causes behind why individuals seek assistance and why pets are entering the shelter.

Armed with more accurate data, communities can tailor our policy advocacy to the most significant issues, utilize our resources to help more people and their pets, and reduce the burden on animal welfare organizations in these communities.

Why are pets coming into the custody of shelters, and what does intake data tell us about the gap between what the community needs and what the shelters provide?

Understand the core reason behind someone entering the shelter by improving the collection of shelter data at and before intake of an animal.

Develop a framework for shelter staff to easily connect people in need with social services or community resources to aid in avoiding unnecessary intake.
